Arrive at Lao Cai station early morning, you’ll have time for refreshment and breakfast before taking a private drive to Lung Khau Nhin market. Although it’s quite a long drive, the landscape is attractive and the ethnic markets are a fascinating experience. Unlike those in the tourist areas, this weekly market is not only for buying and selling but are also meeting places for ethnic minority people to meet and exchange news. There will be plenty of colors and authentic costumes, but very little to buy as souvenirs unless you want to barter for a water buffalo or a sack of fertilizer!

After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll set off for Sapa. There’s time for a short trek to visit a local village en route. You’ll arrive at Sapa with time to relax and stroll around the town.

Sapa – Lung Khau Nhin – Lao Cai

After an early breakfast, your transport and guide will arrive to take you to visit Lung Khau Nhin market. The first part of your journey will take you through Lao Cai, which is a border crossing point, and alongside the river marking the boundary with China.

Unlike those in the tourist areas, this weekly market is not only buying and selling but also meeting places for ethnic minority people to meet and exchange news. There will be plenty of colors and authentic costumes, but very little to buy as souvenirs unless you want to barter for a water buffalo or a sack of fertilizer.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll set off for Lao Cai. There’s time for a short trek to visit a local village en route. You’ll then return to Lao Cai for freshen-up before boarding the sleeper train to Hanoi.

Luc Khau Nhin market Visiting Site/Activity

Lung Khau Nhin market is held every Thursday starting around 7.30am and closing in the early afternoon. The market is set in beautiful scenery and is very remote. It is a very ‘authentic’ market with few tourists visiting. The market mainly sells vegetables, seeds and livestock for the minority peoples.
