Explore the historical Hue city in a day, taking a boat trip along Perfume River to visit Thien Mu pagoda and imperial tombs then the massive Kinh Thanh citadel, witnessing the historical evidence of the city.


In the morning, board a boat for a trip on the Perfume River to visit the towering Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most famous Vietnamese landmarks. According to the local legend, During the time when Nguyen Hoang lord was a governor of Thuan Hoa province (now is known as Hue), Nguyen Hoang Lord want to find a place to settle his own kingdom, when he passed a hill named Ha Khe, he heard a local myth that there was old lady, known as Thiên Mụ (literally “fairy woman”), appeared on the hill; she prophesied that a new king would come and build a pagoda for the country’s prosperity. The Lord Nguyen Hoang, therefore, built a pagoda and named it Thien Mu Pagoda.

We then take a short drive into a lush valley on the river bank where seven tombs of Nguyen emperors were built. Each is an expression of the unique personality of the man who rested in this place. Each is comprised of three structures: a temple dedicated to the worship of the deceased emperor and his queen, a stone stele that records the biographical and historical high points of his life, and the royal tomb itself. We will visit two tombs of emperors Minh Mang and Tu Duc before driving outside of town for a lunch of classic Hue cuisine at a restaurant in a beautiful garden setting.

In the afternoon, we return to the center of Hue city. The massive Kinh Thanh Citadel is the most well-known and iconic site of Hue. The citadel was first built in 1805 by Emperor Gia Long, the royal citadel was a part of complex comprised of the Imperial City, several museums, lakes, and lovely gardens, all laid out in a series of concentric circles. We also visit the Forbidden Purple City, originally built in the early 19th century for the personal use of the. Nearly destroyed in the wartime, the remaining parts today house Royal Library and multiple grounds flourish with mimosa plants and vegetable gardens.
