Hoi An is known for its picturesque scenery and savory cuisines. The best way to learn fully about this small but beautiful town is to join in a bicycle tour of through coconut palm-fringed villages and a coracle tour in the waterway, and together with local people harvesting some herb by your own.
.00: Pick up at your hotel by our tour guide. You will cycle through a short but beautiful lush farm path, rice fields and to the village of Cam Thanh. Along the way, we will take a break and visit local village citizens, see how they use their surrounding resources to support their living using traditional methods.
.00: Take a trip along the circuitous river by coracle (basket) boat. A local family and our tour guide will take you on a journey through an untouched waterway area which is fringed by river coconut palms. You will meet local fishermen who dredge the riverbed in search of river snails.
.00: Arrive at Tra Que village. Enjoy the village tour to nurseries and herb gardens. You can find in the garden abundant herbs: bird’s eye chili, lemongrass, basil, coriander, and spring onions. All thrive in the rich soil.
.30: Jump right in and see how the plots are planted, tended and watered with the guidance of local family farmers.
.00: Relax and enjoy a traditional herbal foot massage in the garden.
.45: The cooking class is hosted by a local family. Each cooking lesson starts with a short introduction, explanations, and demonstration of starters, accompaniments, main courses, and dessert. Then you roll up your sleeves and put your hand on preparing your own “Hoi An 3 course specialty lunch”. Together enjoy your effort at the family table.
.30: Get on your bicycles for another gentle ride back to Hoi An. Along the way back, remember to take photos of the rice paddies and farmers leading their water buffalo home along the country roads.
.00: Arrive back at your hotel.
